ARK Survival, Nvidia RTX-3080 crashing to black screen. 12 things to try!

Experiencing Ark Survival crashing to a black screen with fans at 100%?

This could indicate a problem with your hardware, such as overheating or a graphics card issue.

Here are some steps you can try to resolve this issue:

  1. Check your graphics card drivers: Make sure your graphics card drivers are up to date. You can check for updates by visiting the manufacturer's website and downloading the latest version of the driver.

  2. Update your OS to the latest version updates etc, check your MOBO firmware is up to date.

  3. Temporarily dissable any antivirus or third party graphic card software to rule out any conflicts.

  4. Monitor your system temperature: Use a tool like HWMonitor to monitor your system temperature while playing Ark Survival. If the temperature reaches a high level, it could cause the system to shut down. In this case, consider improving the cooling system, such as adding more fans or cleaning the existing ones.

  5. Check for hardware issues: Run a hardware diagnostic tool to check for any hardware issues that could be causing the problem. If you find any issues, you may need to replace the hardware.

  6. Ensure power cables are upto the job, the 3080 can draw >500 Watts under extreme game conditions. do not use adapters, use the supplied modular cable looms.

  7. Check your power supply, 1000W is barely sufficient if you have 1-2 "disk" HDD's, the card, CPU, 2 xHDD's can exceed the 1000Watts of the PSU very quickly when the GC is under stress.

  8. Lower game settings: If your system is struggling to run Ark Survival at the current settings, try lowering the graphics settings to reduce the load on your system.

  9. Verify game files: Verify the integrity of the game files through Steam or other platforms. Sometimes, corrupted game files can cause crashes.

  10. more than one monitor? try using just one while you diagnose the issues..

  11. do you have any USB graphics cards or adapters, remove them.

  12. Reinstall the game: If the above steps do not work, consider uninstalling and reinstalling the game. This can help to fix any corrupted files that may be causing the issue.

Hopfully one of the tips in this blog helps you, I have had issues over a month and have worked through most all of the above. I have had some success, and now at the last stage (reinstall game files some 475Gb) hardware inspection and service is next lets hope the game reinstall has fixed the very frustrating black screens of ****OH FOR ***** SAKE!**** :-)
